TREATMENT OF THE CITY OF DRESDEN'S WATER
The City of Dresden uses ground water for its source of supply. This is basically the same setup people in rural areas use at their individual homes, only on a much larger scale.

1) The Wells - Three wells pump the water up from the ground and into the water plant. The aquifer, which supplies the water, is located approximately 525 feet below the surface. This aquifer is the same one the City of Memphis, Tennessee is using.

2) Aeration - After the water is out of the ground, it is passed through a forced air induction aerator. This process puts dissolved oxygen into the water, which helps to improve taste.

3) Clear well or Reservoir - After the water passes through the aerator it is stored in the clear well until it is pumped out to the system.

4) Addition of Chemicals - The City of Dresden treats its water with chlorine for disinfection, fluoride for healthy teeth and lime for pH adjustment. All are added by mechanical feeders while the wells are running. They are added to the reservoir and mixed with the incoming water.

5) Tanks - After the water is treated, it is pumped out into the system and stored in tanks. The tanks hold the water and gravity provides pressure to the system.

Each month four(4) samples are taken from different areas of the city and tested by the State for the presence of dangerous microbes and bacteria. This test shows the effectiveness of the chlorine that is added to disinfect the water. For over three(3) years the City of Dresden has not had a sample come back positive for bacteria. All have been negative.
