The City of Dresden has a lagoon system for its waste water disposal. The Main Lagoon receives the water from most of the City while the Industrial Park Lagoon only has 3 factories at the present time.
The lagoon system is known as a Biological/Natural System and requires a Biological/Natural Operators license from the State of Tennessee. It cleans the water the way nature does. Waste water is pumped into the lagoon, bacteria are allowed to "eat" the waste for a certain number of days, and the water is chlorinated for disinfection and pumped to the river.
Tests are conducted daily on the effluent water to insure compliance with The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and Federal Agencies.
MAIN LAGOON
- 2 cells or ponds - one approximately one and one half acres and one approximately 5 acres. In fluent water comes into the small cell and moves to the other end of the large cell. This is designed to take approximately 30 to 45 days.
- 2 In fluent pumps - water from the city sewer system flows into a pit and is pumped into the small cell.
- Chlorination Chamber - where chlorine, in the form of liquid bleach, is added for disinfection.
- 2 Effluent pumps - pumps the treated water from the lagoon approximately 3 miles to the Middle Fork of the Obion River.
- Flow Meter - measures the amount of water pumped to the river.
- The Design Capacity of the Main Lagoon is 589,000 gallons per day.
INDUSTRIAL PARK LAGOON
- Chlorination Chamber/Weir Box - where chlorine, in the form of liquid bleach, is added for disinfection and the flow is measured.
- Flow runs by gravity approximately 400 yards to the Middle Fork of the Obion River.
- Design Capacity is 166,000 gallons per day.
