City of Dresden
Utility Billing Guidelines
For new utility billing accounts within the city limits of Dresden, there is a $100 installation fee. This fee is a decision of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
Water meters in the City of Dresden are read between the 10th and 17th of every month. Once the meters are read, recorded and the readings are entered into our system, the bills are printed and mailed out. Once the utility bills are mailed out, the City allows for at least two full weekends before the bill is due. The bills are generally due around the 10th or 12th of the month. However, it is very important that you pay close attention to the due date on your bill. If the bill is not paid by the due date, a penalty amount is applied. Once the penalty is applied to the account, the City mails out past due notices. You will then have until the date noted on the past due notice to pay the bill before your service is disconnected. If there is a problem with you paying your bill, please contact City Hall at 364-2270 and make them aware of the situation.
If your account is not made current by 4:30 p.m. of the posted date, your account will be placed on a cut off list and your service will be disconnected immediately. Once your account gets placed on this list due to non-payment of your account, there will be a $40 service fee assessed to your account whether your water is disconnected or not. The bill must then be paid in full before your service can be reconnected.
If you are moving out and would like to transfer your service to another address within the city limits of Dresden, you must follow the following guidelines:
1. Your account must be in good financial standing.
2. You must come to City Hall and notify them of your move.
3. You must pay a $15 transfer fee.
Should you move within the city limits of Dresden or outside the City of Dresden and fail to notify the City of your move, your bill will continue to accumulate and you will continue to be financially responsible for full payment of that account.
If you rent property or are a real estate agent who owns property within the city limits of Dresden and would like to have access to water for cleaning purposes, but do not want the bill placed in your name, there is an arrangement you can make with the City. You may pay a $100 installation fee per fiscal year. This means you may pay $100 to have the water turned on to any rental property or property for sale within the city limits of Dresden for a 24 or 48-hour period for cleaning or inspection. This fee would be due July 1st of every year and may be prorated out. Should you have a tenant move out and should you desire to have the utility account placed in your (the owner's) name and service not turned off, this name change of the account will be done without a transfer fee being assessed. However, you would now assume full responsibility of the account.
If you are moving back into the city limits of Dresden and have once had water service with the City of Dresden, you must meet the following requirements:
1. You must have had good standing with the City and pay a $15 transfer fee.
2. If you have had poor credit with the City, you must pay a $100 installation fee.
